Therapeutic sessions

The elegant entry area.

There's a special quality to the light at Fun-do-mental Music.

With a unique sound palette to work from--the amazing assortment of World, Classical, Ethnic, and Folk instruments in the studio--composer David De Palo leads composition and music therapy sessions in the main studio of Fun-do-mental Music.

The therapeutic benefits of creating music go far beyond the obvious, cathartic release of a drum circle. Focussing attention on listening and counting while performing simple hand and finger movements has a healing and stimulating effect on both mind and body.

Therapeutic rhythm involves drumming  with hands or mallets on drums, or strumming/plucking easy to play exotic instruments. Participants count and move in unison. Small variations are introduced between groups until--as if by magic--a wonderful and sonorous texture is created. It's a form of meditation and exercise and improvisation all in one!

The projected visualizers throw bright, reactive colors on two full sized screens; a color composition linked inexorably with the sounds of the studio.

Pianissimo bass drum strokes accompanied by a quartet of singing bowl-gongs brings sessions to a soothing, healing conclusion

As a bonus: everything participants create is recorded and archived––in case a magic moment occurs . .
